November ushers in autumn’s finale,
A blaze of rich colour shortly to disappear.
But not just yet as the muted brown,
Surrounded by fuchsia pink, purple, maroon and rust,
Adds an eye popping display of scarlet and crimson,
A final farewell to the glories of autumn.
Crab apples adorn bare trees like decorative baubles.
And Japanese quince the ‘Chaenomles japonica’
Is a splendour all of its own with gilded fruit.
Buttery yellow and golden shine the maples and look lovely,
Whilst acers turn to the richest red ever.
Why this late, late colour, so fabulous?
Is this not a final farewell,
An anthem of splendour to praise the Sender?
Lord, I think this must be so! I can think of no other reason than to delight us, resulting in praise to You, for the late autumn colour of red in rich splendour to be gloriously evident. Thank You for brightening up the
final week of autumn in such a remarkable way. Amen.
